ffwD: Christine’s simple party soups

20131224_165904

Lately with French Fridays with Dorie, I’ve been skipping reading Dorie’s mini-intros before the recipe and instead going straight for the recipe. This means that I miss out on the recipe’s backstory or some related humerous anecdote. Subsequently so, I have no idea who “Christine” is other than she’s the namesake of this week’s assignmnet.

Three types of soup were a lot ot make for one post, but luckily, my sister (Codename: Gamer Psychologist) was in town from Hawaii over Christmas to help with the eating! Still, I only made half versions of each batch for the two of us. As for garnishes, I used cayenne on the red bell pepper soup, curry on the asparagus soup, and cardamom on the broccoli soup. Gamer Psychologist really liked the broccoli and asparagus soups, but left me the red bell pepper soup because she stated “bell peppers are gross.”

Christine’s simple party soups were made for French Fridays with Dorie, a group of bloggers who are cooking their way through Dorie Greenspan’s Around My French Table: More Than 300 Recipes from My Home to Yours.

He, he, I rarely read the back story either – I am normally on a strict time budget, so I hop right into it. You are good to have made all three soups – great job. Me, I just opted for the asparagus, because I didn’t know what I was going to do with all of that soup.

Very nice. Your soup looks so much thicker than mine. I’m sure they were all yummy, even the red pepper!

Since I usually cook for just two, I would be halving the recipes as well. Nice that you had your sister to help in all the eating. 🙂

LOL. The backstory is much of the fun for me! Not sure what I would write if it wasn’t there for me to snark at. That said, I’m quite taken with the presentations of this that thought enough to sprinkle the spices on the cream instead of mixing them in. Wish I thought of that.

Look good — a bit chunkier than what I ended up with. I agree w/sister on the red pepper — they def. need to be roasted to be any good. Have a great w/e!

“Bell peppers are gross”??? Say it ain’t so. Tell her to eat an orange or red one at the height of summer when they are soooo sweet. That will change her mind for sure.

Very colorful! I liked the taste of the green ones, the red one, not so much (too thin). Hope you had a nice visit with your sister.

Hope you had a great holiday! Can’t say I read the intro on this one either – I thought the red soup was just too watery, next time I need to thicken it up a bit. Have a great weekend.

Your soups look really good! Cardamom would be such an interesting flavor for the broccoli. I may have to try that!

Very much liking the thick consistency of yours. I love broccoli so after tasting all 3- I wolfed down that one. Hubby actually likes peppers an asparagus so he was stuck, but not complaining, with the other two. Did like the new use for leftover veggies.

That’s funny that you don’t read the backstory. Sometimes I kind of skim them:) I usually look at the ingredients first and sometimes don’t even ready the instructions very well! By the way, I cannot recommend my method as it has gotten me in trouble more than once. So very nice to have you sister to share with!
