TwD: Baking Mocha Chocolate Chip Cookies with Julia

Even though I’m in the final week of my cleanse, I couldn’t pass up this week’s Tuesdays with Dorie: Baking with Julia assignment, mocha chocolate chip cookies. Not because I’m a chocolate or coffee fanatic, but because I actually had all the ingredients on hand. Well, everything except the dried apricots which were never going in my cookies anyway.

However, not to worry. Although I baked these cookies, I didn’t eat any of them. I didn’t even taste any of the batter. This cleanse has changed my attitude towards food and has really curbed my cravings for sweets. I’ve even kicked my Diet Coke habit! Not one drop of Diet Coke for 16 days straight! I’m not going to lie: it was HORRIBLE going cold turkey from Diet Coke for the first five days. I never want to go through that again.

I’m bringing these cookies to my friends, and hopefully, they like them. I can say this: the instant coffee powder really smells amazing when baked in chocolate chip cookies. If the smell’s an indicator, then I’m sure these cookies taste amazing. So, if you love the taste of coffee and chocolate, head over to this week’s Tuesdays with Dorie: Baking with Julia host, Peggy of galettista, where she’s posted the recipe.

    Congratulations on a successful cleanse!
I am sure the cookies will be well-enjoyed. I ended up bringing most of these into work – I didn’t want 4 dozen of anything hanging around the house.

I just am having a hard time believing that you could bake these and not even taste it. You have amazing will power. They smelled so good while baking. Good job kicking the diet coke habit! I hope you save a cookie to try when you are done with your cleanse.

I was about to ask how you could resist these cookies! They look delicious!
If you don’t mind me asking, I’d be really interesting in hearing what your cleanse was. I might be interested in trying it 😉

These would have been tough for me to refuse (and I’d have left out the apricots too). I (mostly) kicked my Diet Coke habit a few years ago–I have two/week now–one after each ballet class.

I have zero capacity to bake and not eat. It killed me this weekend that I baked a cake to bring to a friend’s and had to leave before they served it. KILLED ME. I talked about it for two days. My husband thinks I’m a lunatic. Point being, cheers to you. I could NOT have done that. Especially with cookies, that are so easily sneakable.

I really admire you for doing a cleanse – I have been trying to make healthy choices but I don’t know that I’m at cleanse-level yet. The Diet Coke thing is awesome though – soda is the worst waste of calories ever. Now you can eat more cookies 🙂

Your cookies look fantastic. The coffee really was a good addition to these cookies. I am so impressed that you were able to make these without tasting them. It must feel very empowering to have that control over food. I think we could all do with a cleanse now and then to get us back to having that control.

Wow, congratulations on your big achievement. Looking forward to reading everything about the cleanse… I urgently need one! Lucky me I always drink tab water (great tab water here) and wouldn’t have problems in dropping the coke… Dropping the coffee will be quite bitter! (do I need to drop it? 😉 ).
Well, your cookies looks beautiful and believe me, they were absolutely fantastic.
Are you allowed to go back on treats? I’ve included whole wheat and cut down the butter…Could be a start!

Congrats on ditchin’ the coke! I don’t know if I could bake and not taste the batter or the final product – what discipline! The coffee scent was wonderful as was the taste in the dough, but it did not really come through in the baked cookie. Still I really enjoyed these.
