ffwD: Orange-scented Lentil Soup

Was anyone else surprised by how much the orange permeated throughout this soup? Especially from just one sliver of orange peel? Or was it just me?

Anyway, as many of you know, I’m about to complete week two of a three-week cleanse diet that renders a sizable portion of Dorie’s cookbook off-limits. However, a few of the recipes can be tweaked to keep them cleanse-friendly, with this lentil soup being one of them. Of course, I couldn’t garnish with the fun yogurt, bacon, or lardons as Dorie suggested, but the soup was still plenty flavorful. It had a nice lift from the bright and citrus-y orange peel, which was a nice surprise coming from a lentil soup. I made sure to make the entire batch so that I can substitute it for times when I get tired of the other soups on the cleanse. Here’s to one more week!

This orange-scented lentil soup was made as a part of French Fridays with Dorie, a group of bloggers who are cooking their way through Dorie Greenspan’s Around My French Table: More Than 300 Recipes from My Home to Yours.

I actually added much more orange to get some flavor. Must be the broth thatΒ΄s used. I really liked it, especially the next day. Kudos to you and your cleanse!

Yes, I was surprised that the orange permeated the soup with its flavor so prominent. Liked this also. Didn’t you do a cleanse recently? How often do you do a cleanse if I may ask?

It looks amazing!! Maybe your cleanse is the reason you could taste so much orange, your palate may be totally clean and able to pick up every flavour nuance. This looks so good. Enjoy!

I have been feeling bored with my usual lentil soup–orange sounds like an interesting twist. I don’t do the bacon in my lentil soup either for health purposes (even without a cleanse)–though perhaps that’s why it’s boring πŸ˜‰ Good luck on your final week!

Yes – I was very surprised at how much the orange peel contributed. I almost left it out because I didn’t think it would matter.
Way to hang in there with your cleanse!

Funny because we expected there to be much more orange flavor. At least it wasn’t overpowering it for us but the aroma was fabulous. And kudos for the cleanse. After that cheesy creme brulee which I have had WAY too much of on homemade bread toasted, I could use a cleanse myself……..:)

i’m commenting backwards at this point, but I have to say that having not done a cleanse but having done a “limitation” shall we say, the fun thing is that it does enhance certain flavors and smells and makes you aware that you become desensitized to those things over time…which is one of the added values of a cleanse I imagine!
