ffwD: Mini Brioche Loaves

Happy 2012, Doristas! It’s been a full week since I’ve posted, but it feels like a year in blogging-time. I took so much time away because *drumroll, please* I moved into a new place! It took me and one strong friend to move everything in approximately nine hours over two afternoons. But, that was only the actual moving time. I spent several hours over the New Year’s weekend (both tipsy and hungover) worrying about whether my place would be ready by the promised due date and packing up as much stuff as possible beforehand. With everything boxed up, I wasn’t in the mood nor was my old kitchen in any state to cook or bake something. But, no worries. I knew that once I was in my new place, I’d be able to unpack one of my favorite Christmas presents I received this year: a boysenberry-colored Kitchen Aid that my sister (Codename: DSN Engineer) gave me! She also got me the meat grinder attachment, but that’s for another post.

Anyway, after being in my new place for a couple of days just getting used to the new space and layout, I finally got around to opening my Kitchen Aid and made this week’s ffwD recipe! These mini brioche loaves will always hold a special place in my mind as they were the first recipe I made with my Kitchen Aid, the first recipe I made in my new kitchen, and the first recipe I made in 2012! (Yes, this was planned.)

I opted for mini loaves because I so rarely get to use my four mini loaf pans. And, even though my dough didn’t rise as much as Dorie said it would (probably because I used up the last of the paper packaged yeast that survived the move), I didn’t care! These loaves smelled sweet and delicious while baking and tasted even better! They were eaten by me and my friend who helped me move as part of a “thank you for helping me move” dinner involving all of January’s ffwD recipes.

To see how other bloggers fared with their bubble-top brioches or brioche loaves, check out French Fridays with Dorie where we make recipes from Dorie Greenspan’s Around My French Table: More Than 300 Recipes from My Home to Yours.

Congrats on the new place (the granite countertops look nice) and I love the new Kitchen Aid! I got mine many years ago as a Christmas present, and never cease to find uses for it, even though I rarely bake anymore. And lucky you to get the meat grinder attachment – its on my list…maybe Santa will be good next year…Brioche was a great kick off; I wouldn’t make dough without the Kitchen Aid. And your mini loaves turned out lovely.🙂

Congrats on the hew digs and the KA! (Love the countertops, by the way).
I absolutely love my grinder attachment and use it fairly often (homemade sausage & home ground hamburger meat are so much better than what you can get at most grocers). Maybe the pasta roller attachment will come your way next🙂

I’m in love with the color of that KitchenAid! I don’t think boysenberry was an option six years ago when I bought mine. Congrats on your new place! Moves are always stressful, but once they’re done and you’re all unpacked, it’s so great. (at least for me, the house will never be as neat again as it is in that just-unpacked, everything’s in its place phase). A lovely recipe to start a lovely year in a lovely new home!

Lucky you. I love my KitchenAid. As a matter of fact, I bought one for my nephew & his wife when they got married, and they returned it! Horreur! Said they didn’t have enough space. I relate to that, but I’m such a baker that I consider it more important than a coffee makre. OK, I don’t drink coffee🙂 Can’t wait to make the brioche. I used to bake a lot of my own bread, but with all the great bakeries around, it was hard to match them for variety-not to mention saving all that time. However, there is something so soothing about kneading and making bread. Great photos, too!
