ffwD: Sour Cream & Onion Potato Chip Tortilla

I previously made and posted about Dorie’s potato chip tortilla. Last time, I followed the recipe and used plain potato chips. However, I did make a notation in my cookbook that it might be fun to try different flavored chips next time. So, for this week’s assignment, I made my tortilla with Lays sour cream & onion chips. To be honest, I couldn’t tell too much of a flavor difference.

Since I made this as a quick lunch for myself, I only made half the recipe in a 4-inch pot, which is the smallest stove top pan/pot I could find. For a bit of flourish, I served my tortilla with a dollop of sour cream and a dill garnish. And, just so I could have a bit of “healthy” with this potato chip lunch, I paired the yummy tortilla with a mixed greens and herb salad with balsamic vinaigrette and chunks of blue cheese. Overall, the meal was filling, tasty and extremely simple to prepare!

I noticed that a few people played around with different types of chips – fun idea.
The green and the yellow together are very cheery – just what is needed to brighten up a cold winter day.

What a cute little individual portion. I also like the idea to play around with different chips, I’m going to make a note in my book in case I make this one again in the future.

I’m curious — wouldn’t a potato chip tortilla be fantastically salty? It looks good, but…

I love the pretty brown edges. I’m surprised that the sour cream and onion flavor didn’t come through much. Weird!

Great photos! I love that you were able tto do this as a individual dish. Surprised that the sour cream and onion didn’t come through as much. I was having an issue with my dish just not have the same punch of flavor that I expected from the potato chips. Happy Holiday!

I remember when you made this before. It’s been on my mind to try it since then, so I was happy this came up as an assignment for FFwD. I love potatoe pancakes with dill and sour cream, so I’ll bet your tortilla was fantastic with those accompaniments. I served mine with salad on the side too. Nice work.

I like that idea, substituting different flavored chips. I love to add hot sauce to our
frittata or eggs of any kind, gives it that little extra lift. Tricia and I both enjoyed
the recipe this week. In case I don’t have a chance for comments next week,
have a merry Christmas. I have a feeling I will be in the kitchen for the
next few days, and not making Dorie recipes.

Hi this is my first time on this wonderful blog and i am overwhelmed seeing all these yummy things all over the place.
I would never have thought of making a tortilla with potato chips from a packet…I make an omelet with shallow fried slivers of potato and lots of chopped cilantro whipped into the eggs and call it a quick Spanish omelet…i can imagine how rich and flavorful this tortilla would be. Checked out your mushrooms version too and that was yumm…
    Great pictures !!!
    Merry Christmas !!!
