“Supposedly Secret” Slice and Bake Cookies

My sister (Codename: DSN Engineer) told me that her division at IBM was having a holiday pot luck luncheon this year. When I asked what she was bringing, she replied, “Oh, I’ll probably just buy some of those slice and bake cookies from the store.” I was aghast. After the numerous cookie recipes I’ve posted here, she wanted slice and bake. So, I told her that I had a great homemade chocolate chip slice and bake cookie recipe from one of the amazing blogs I read, The 21st Century Housewife’s Kitchen. The plan was that I would prepare the slice and bake cookie dough, send it to DSN Engineer, and then she would make them, taking credit for making “homemade” cookies with no one being the wiser. (FYI, I had no problem with this plan.)

These cookies were extremely easy to make, yielding two cookie dough logs per batch. I made a mini chocolate chip cookie batch and a butterscotch chip batch. I enjoyed making this recipe, especially since I knew I wasn’t baking them afterwards! However, this also meant I couldn’t take any photos of the “sliced” or “baked” cookies. DSN Engineer took a couple instead. Here’s a look at the “sliced” pre-baked cookies:

(The cat belongs to DSN Engineer. Her name is Feta, like the cheese. She is a pretty wide-faced kitty.) And, here is a photo of the “baked” cookies:

As you can see, a bite is missing from a cookie, which means these cookies turned out pretty tasty! I had a report from DSN Engineer that after baking all four logs of cookie dough and setting them out at work, all the cookies were gone by the end of the day! However, DSN Engineer messed up the plan and told everyone I sent them. Uh! She blew the secret. Oh, well! At least everyone got really tasty cookies!

If I had a sister, I’d want it to be the Cookie Hero kind. That was nice of you. I’m impressed with your self control of preparing batter that you’re not going to eat. I’m very possessive of my baked goods. I’d have a hard time giving them away without even trying one. I have problems. Glad the cookies were a hit!

hehe, thats nice of you to offer! I do this for my friends too if they have a get together or a kid’s party at school and they would rather buy cookies or cupcakes, then I offer to make them and deliver and I know that they are just so much better than store bought πŸ™‚

I think Feta must have taken a bite out of that cookie. How cute she is! And, what a great sister you are. You and your sister’s cookies look so good and I am going to make some of those slice and bake cookies this weekend because they are so great to keep in the frig and bake off during the holidays so you can have freshly baked cookies when you need them.

I need to make cookies for work later this week–want to send me some rolls I can slice and bake? Haha. I do love that you can freeze the rolls and have them on hand for later! That would be a great time saver…or great frozen treat from the freezer if I can’t resist.
