Brown Sugar Cornbread

Greg and Katherine over at Rufus’ Food and Spirits have featured a couple of cornbread recipes on their blog, which over time, have subconsciously planted the idea for me to make cornbread this weekend (after I finally went grocery shopping, of course)! Seemingly by coincidence, I went through several back issues of Martha Stewart Living I had stored and found a recipe for brown sugar cornbread. What a great idea to use brown sugar! Although I only had light brown sugar as opposed to the dark brown called for by the recipe, this cornbread came together easily. I like the fact that the recipe doesn’t require softened butter, which is somewhat of a deterrent for me when I’m baking. Now, off to make some chili for the Bears game tonight!

    When we use sweetener in our cornbread, we use honey. So I would love to try the brown sugar version. It looks great. Oh there’s a cornbread festival coming up here!

    How heavenly does this recipe sound. You know I have made cornbread before but have never actually eaten it. Maybe i`ll have to give this recipe a try!

    Did you know that you can make your own brown sugar? Just add molasses to white sugar. This look great!

    This is one of the few times I’ve seen my Packer fan family rooting for the Bears. Hope they do better than the first series 😦

    This looks so good! have been baking a few recipes lately that have had brown sugar in them and have found myself substituting it for white and really loving the difference in look and flavor.

    Your loaf looks gorgeous! I’ve not made cornbread in a while…well, I guess since I last made chilli!! Seems like they always go together! I’ll have to try the brown sugar next time, Martha does have some good ideas!!

    homemade cornbread is one thing but brown sugar cornbread takes it to a whole new level. Oh how my southern grandmother would be so proud of you! πŸ™‚ This is the best recipe I have seen in a while

    This looks great–and it uses a lot of cornmeal. So many recipes have a higher ratio of white flour and barely taste corn-y. And perfect timing; I just made gumbo!
