But they just got here!

That was my rather childlike, whiny response to the farmers market lady who said that strawberry season would be around for about another week, week and a half tops, in Chicago. No!

So, for all the attention hogging comments I made last week about strawberries, I apologize. Now I understand the reasoning behind their urgent pleas of “Buy me now! Buy me now!” and their use of guerilla-like tactics to get me to notice them. They wouldn’t be here long.

To be on the safe side, I bought a $3 pint of the berries and ate the entire thing for breakfast. No sugar needed. They were amazingly sweet and juicy as is. Which makes me all the more sadder that they’ll be gone soon…

Strawberry season is way too short😦 But I guess that just means we have to appreciate them while they’re here!

It was really short here too this year. Guess I have to make the most of peaches and the other berries.

Nooo…! I don’t want to hear this!! I need to squeeze in one more strawberry shortcake! But I agree with Greg, it’s on to the next crop of seasonal fruit and that’s what I really love about cooking seasonally; it’s ever changing!

Love your photos, they are really looking so good. We’ve had the most amazing strawberry harvest this year as the weather has been so good in early spring, but your post has reminded me to get on and buy up some for making Strawberry Jam before they disappear. You are right they really are the most alluring of fruit.

With all the rain we’re getting here this week , strawberries may not be bountiful this season! I love Ontario berries, just bought a $3 pint today too! Will enjoy mine with vanilla bean ice-cream.🙂

Nothing better than locally grown, vine ripe strawberries. Worth every dollar spent on them over the stuff we get bussed in from wherever the rest of the year. Great photos!

In case of withdrawal symptoms one option is to travel to the Southern Hemisphere later in the year:)

Those strawberries look like perfection! I’m as surprised as you that their season is so short. I hope you at least get to make some salad with them for FFWD this week🙂.

That is such a clear photo I can even see the strawberry “hair” – and I want to take a bite out of it. You probably ate it already though, right?

Strawberry season has just begun here in northern Australia and I’m eating strawberries like there’s no tomorrow!

Aww no scoff as many strawberries as you can whilst they last! My parents are going strawberry picking on Sunday, I’m hoping strawberry season in England lasts longer!
