“Don’t you love New York in the fall? It makes me want to buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address.”–Joe Fox from You’ve Got Mail.
While I don’t live in New York, I do love fall. And, though I’ve been out of Academia for eight years, fall still reminds me of school supplies, back-to-school clothes, and packed lunches. In honor of this month’s Forever Nigella, I thought it fitting to make Nigella’s rocky road crunch bars. Nigella herself says that “No one is ever going to complain about having one of these in their lunch box.” The recipe can be found here or in Nigella Express.
This month’s Forever Nigella host is Nazima at Working London Mummy. Forever Nigella is a cooking group created by Sarah at Maison Cupcake.

I love rocky road and I can eat it at any time of the year, not just fall. I love that quote from You’ve Got Mail. What a great talent Nora Ephron was xx

You photos of this little treat are fantastic. Love the dusting of the powdered sugar on top makes it look like a little bellow of chocolate on a cloud.

I’m with you – you can’t escape that feeling of school in September, even if you have nothing to do with it anymore

I still work in a university, so fall is absolutely synonymous with the things you’ve itemized. Even “big kids” have their school supplies all in tow. And these bars make my head spin! I often bring treats into the office for the students I work with, so this will be a must! And soon.

Since I’m a teacher by trade, fall always means a new year to me! I think my son would fall off his chair if he found something so exciting in his lunchbox. I wonder if I ought to try…
Sep 25, 2012 @ 14:57:30
I know my son would love to have such a treat as a snack! I would love to have it myself at work! It looks so sinful!
