Being the good friend that I am, I agreed to participate in a vegan cleanse diet for the next few weeks with my friend (Codename: Candelabra). Let me tell you: it’s only Day 2, and all I can think about is snacking on string cheese and grilling salmon for dinner. Sigh… Anyway, in light of this cleanse, I made several TwD and ffwD assignments over the weekend that were clearly not vegan-friendly.
One of them was today’s TwD berry galette as the dough calls for sour cream and butter. Dorie wasn’t kidding about this dough being extremely malleable. My dough became so wet and soft that I left out approximately four tablespoons of the sour cream-ice water mixture for fear that the dough would be too liquidy and not come together.
This galette was delicious, but what pie isn’t? I used blackberries and raspberries for the filling, and the cornmeal in the dough gave the galette a nice mealy texture. A big thanks to my co-worker (Codename: Tasha) for giving me cornmeal so I wouldn’t have to buy an entire bag!
To get the recipe for this berry galette, head over to this week’s hosts: Lisa of Tomato Thymes in the Kitchen or Andrea of The Kitchen Lioness.

That’s so good of you to support your friend. I’m not sure I could do it. I hate restricting myself and I’m sure as soon as I decided I was cutting out meat and dairy that that’s exactly what I would crave. I hope it goes well for you. And that’s a very lovely looking dessert xx

Good luck with vegan cleanse! I’m not sure if I can do it…as I still have trouble with just a portion control on my food. Ugh. What a delicious galette. Good thing you asked your co-worker for corn meal because I have a big jar of corn meal that haven’t used since I used once…
Aug 11, 2012 @ 13:50:25
I wish I was smart like you and had left out some of the water-sour cream mixture. Very smart. Good luck with the cleanse – I did one for two weeks and it wasn’t easy! Beautiful galette.
